Mars in Leo

 As covered in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (now available on Amazon), and our recent Planet Power – Mars, blog, dated 5-21-24, the planet Mars will spend a significantly longer time in the signs of Cancer and Leo, during its current rotation. Mars normally spends about 1 ½ months positioned in a sign, however, due to its coming retrograde period (from December 6 through February 23), that time will be extended, as it remains in one of these two signs from September 4, 2024 until June 18, 2025.

      Mars will travel through Leo from November 3rd through January 6, 2025 (when it moves back to Cancer), then again from April 18 to June 17, 2025, before finally moving into the sign of Virgo on June 18, covering about 9 1/2 months.

      Mars, which represents aggressive, combative, and fighting spirit energies, and Leo (a fire sign ruled by the Sun), which symbolizes courage, creativity, and pride, makes for an interesting combo. Where Mars in Cancer can be passive/aggressive and emotional, Mars can really take charge in the sign of Leo, with confidence and conviction.

      The previous Mars/Leo ingress, in July and the first half of August in 2023, resulted in market cycle highs, followed by a reversal, which is very common with this transit. The S&P 500 rose about 3% in July, then fell about 1.7% in August during this transit, including Mars initial entry into Virgo. On this occasion, the first ingress will occur during a seasonally strong period in the signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius, but the prolonged stay in Cancer and Leo will transit many sign seasons.

      As we have discussed in the past, the themes of many transits and aspects tend to repeat themselves, and the energies can be felt for some time before the actual date of the event, and for a period after. With the back-and-forth motion of Mars between Cancer and Leo, plenty of sharp increases and/or declines in the equities markets could occur. The commodities markets, which began another surge in Leo season, may also continue to see gains, as Leo represents gold and Cancer represents silver.

      The general belief among financial astrologers is that the combination will further strengthen these commodities, as well as sectors including financials, defense (including cybersecurity), and real estate (with the possible exception of homebuilders).
