PLANET POWER
Saturn
In this installment of “Planet Power,” we will discuss the planet Saturn, known as the Great Malefic planet in the universe, covered in Chapter 4 of our new publication “When to Buy and When to Sell;” Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon).
Saturn spends approximately 2.5 years in each sign, and travels around the zodiac in approximately 29-30 years. Like other “outer” planets, it tends to have a profound effect during its transition, due to the extended length of stay in a sign. Saturn entered the sign of Pisces on March 7, 2023, where it will remain until May 24, 2025 (due to an upcoming retrograde on 6-29-24 through mid-November). It will then initially spend just over 3 months in the sign of Aries, before again retrograding back into Pisces from August 31, 2025 through February 13, 2026. It will then spend the next couple of years in Aries.
Some of the main traits and energies attributed to Saturn include; rules, restriction, the law, limitations/boundaries, responsibility, challenge, hard work, self-control, fears, and karma. In the financial world, Saturn symbolizes institutions, banking, real estate, and organizational structure. Sectors signified by this planet include homebuilders, engineers, and conglomerates. Saturn may get a “bad rap” when it comes to the “great malefic’ designation, however, as it has fierce competition from both Mars (aggression) and Pluto (destruction). With Saturn’s influence, results will not necessarily be negative if the rules are followed, and necessary challenges are met with honesty and dignity.
Saturn “rules” both the sign of Capricorn, representing government, secrecy, corruption, institutions, authority, and banking in the financial world, and Aquarius (with Uranus)
Which represents the people, a change (sometimes very sudden) in public mindset, resistance to government controls, a possible time when hidden truths come to light, and possible rebellion, which are two very different themes. The planet Pluto’s transit through Capricorn, from 2008 – 2024, and its current entry into Aquarius, from 2023 – 2044, has had major Saturn themes (as its ruler), which are expected to continue. Please see our Planet Power – Pluto blog dated 3-17-24.
Saturn’s influences began almost immediately with Pluto’s most recent ingress into Capricorn in 2008, with the onset of the sub-prime mortgage global banking crisis/recession. It also took no time (3 days!) for Saturn’s energies to be felt when it first entered Pisces (ruled by Neptune), which represents confusion and endings. On March 10, 2023, SVB bank in California collapsed with no warning, as Uranus (sudden events) was also positioned in the sign of Taurus (money). Only two weeks later, Capricorn was set to make its first ingress into Aquarius, which is a time of public awareness coming to light. As you can see, these planetary themes tend to have historical roots, and often repeat themselves through time.
Hence, the current increasing battle that has developed between authority and the populace is not surprising and has a long history. Other significant events that have occurred while Pluto transited Capricorn include the British Invasion, the rise of King George III, and Louis XVI (1762-1778). Pluto’s previous transitions into Aquarius have also resulted in the American and French Revolutions, the U.S. Declaration and Constitution, the Industrial Revolution, and the end of slavery in Britain, essentially the “rising of the people,” all under the “rule” of Saturn.
Saturn retrograde is a time to take caution, and possibly review your approach to many of life’s challenges, including finance and the markets. A “gambling” mentality is not suggested during this time, despite recent favorable Jupiter aspects, discussed in previous blogs. Although retrograde periods can weaken a planets’ energies, a square aspect with Jupiter is approaching on August 19, 2024, a certain time of caution. If you don’t put in the work, Saturn may get you!
Based on other current aspects and economic conditions, financial astrologers commonly believe in the long-term that the technology (AI and robotics) and commodities sectors will continue to flourish, although there will be some bumps along the way. Real estate and homebuilders may suffer a setback for the time being.
