TRADER TRANSITS

Jupiter Transits

As covered in our recent publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (now available on Amazon), Jupiter plays a major role in the financial arena in astrology, symbolizing expansion, abundance, and sometimes outright luck, but also exacerbating the negative on occasion. An upcoming square aspect with Saturn, which is almost the opposite, as it represents restriction, discipline, hard work, and challenges, is creating issues with the market. The energies of Jupiter continue the desire to “breakout,” while the energies of Saturn want to “hold back,” creating friction like a tug of war. This creates volatility and indecision in the markets, with consistent swings in price action, and translates to the individual investor, or trader, experiencing emotional swings with their own indecision. For businesses, it can represent legal and/or structural issues, which may also be stronger in the sign of Leo (which represents owners, CEOs, and global leaders).

Jupiter, has been positioned in the sign of Gemini (3rd house of the zodiac, representing communications, transportation, and technology), which is ruled by Mercury – also symbolizing communications, for about 2 months. Since the recent ingress, the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in the sign of Taurus has not disappointed, as the advances in the technology sector continued. Saturn has been positioned in the sign of Pisces (mystery, drugs, mental challenges) since March 7, 2023, and will remain until May 25, 2025.

The general belief among financial astrologers is that markets will turn volatile (as noted in other recent blogs (including our Planet Power – Jupiter Effect edition on 3-27-24) as this square aspect approaches, and will continue for some time after. This Jupiter/Saturn square will take place on August 19, 2024, just before the end of Leo “season” (which ends on 8/22), and continue into Virgo “season.” This time of the year in the markets traditionally tends to trend down, seasonally, and this aspect may exacerbate that move. If, or when, a correction occurs, there may be a delay in the resumption of bullish sentiment due to the Saturn influence.

The previous Jupiter/Saturn square occurred in May of 2016. The history of this square has coincided with pauses in bull markets, with increased volatility. This aspect on August 19 is actually the first in a series of 3 squares between these two planets, with the second on December 24, 2024, and the last on June 15, 2025. A square is a “hard” aspect, which ends Jupiter’s string of recent “soft” aspects, signifying more challenges, as Saturn energies are also very strong, and are essentially opposite those of Jupiter. This “battle” is likely to increase market volatility as Saturn remains in Pisces.

Additionally, just prior to the Jupiter/Saturn square, there will be a Jupiter/Mars conjunction, just a few days prior, on August 14, 2024. By aspect definition, Mars will also square Saturn in this time-period. As we know, Mars is very aggressive, and the combination with “super-charged” Jupiter can cause violent swings in either direction in the global markets.

These historical events tend to have huge implications regarding the financial markets and the overall financial system. Many of these same themes are repeated and the energies can be felt for some time before the actual date of the event, and for a period after.

Sectors to focus on during this period continue to be real estate, commodities, cryptocurrency, and bonds, should interest rate cuts begin.
