U.S. STOCK MARKET
Birth Chart
The U.S. Stock Market (USSM) possesses its own birth chart, also known as a natal chart (pictured in blog image), based on its first trade date of May 17, 1792, at 7:52 a.m. As explained in our recent publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (now available on Amazon), this entity has a Cancer Rising sign (which is automatically placed in the 1st house), a Gemini Sun sign (in the 12th house), and an Aries Moon sign (in the 10th house). Try not to be confused, or intimidated by all the symbols and lines in the middle of a chart, if you are not familiar with Astrology. The lines simply signify all the aspects between planets and other entities on that first trade date, and we will hone in on only the portion we are highlighting during future blogs.
Also, don’t confuse the difference between the USSM chart and the zodiacal house order (which begins with Aries in the first house), as each individual or business chart begins with the 1st house at its Ascendant/Rising sign. Therefore, there is often a mix between mundane/collective astrology and a natal birth chart when assessing planetary aspects and transits.
As also detailed in our publication are specific traits and attributes of the planets, signs, and houses, including the financial sectors they influence. They all tend to have some blended associations with the equity markets, though the most prolific financial houses are the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th.
A Cancer rising sign for the USSM is fitting as it represents the home (which is the 4th house in the zodiac). Traits possessed by Cancer also include sensitivity and emotion (as it is ruled by the Moon), which also signifies the home, the mother, and emotions. It is interesting that it also has the planet Uranus in the 2nd house (self-worth, income generation), in the sign of Leo, as that planet is known for its sudden, unexpected events, and unpredictability. The “market” is often very volatile, and is extremely sensitive and reactionary to macro news events, which incites human emotion. As we also stress many times in our publication, human emotion/sentiment is the driving force in the markets, especially in the short term.
In the 8th house (representing money matters including shared finances, loans, and taxes), in the sign of Aquarius, the chart of USSM contains Pluto, the most powerful planet in our solar system (see our Planet Power – Pluto blog dated 3-17-24), which symbolizes destruction and transformation, and debt. In the business world it signifies power and money, and rules sectors including scientific research, long-term bonds (with Jupiter) and oil (with Neptune). Pluto spent most of the last 2 decades positioned in the sign of Capricorn, which relates to the government, and has recently moved into Aquarius, which represents the people, and technology. Needless to say, there are many transformations taking place globally, especially with money and power.
Historical events tend to have huge implications regarding the equity markets and the overall financial system. Many of the same themes tend to repeat themselves, and through time Pluto in Aquarius (which always follows Pluto in Capricorn), has resulted in major transformational events including the American Revolution, French Revolution, and the Irish Uprising in the late 1700’s, as well as the creation of the American Constitution.
When a planet moves into its birth/natal “home” sign it is referred to as its “return.” Generally, the energies that planet exudes are very powerful. Pluto has been moving back and forth between Capricorn and Aquarius since the 1st ingress on March 23, 2023, and the 2nd on January 20, 2024 (due to Pluto retrograde periods), and will return to Aquarius for good (for about 20 years) on November 19, 2024.
The 11th house of the USSM, which represents a grander picture of one’s financial wealth/life, sits in the sign of Taurus (money). Planets present in this house/sign include Mercury (communication/technology) and Venus (money), as well as an entity known as the Lot of Fortune (financial fate). Both Mercury, on May 15th, and Venus, on May 19th, will also “return” to Taurus, signifying further price appreciation in technology/communications sectors during their stay in this sign.
Financial sectors to focus on include AI, electric vehicles, robotics, and space technology.
***Additional planetary positioning can also affect and vary the potential outcome of any transit, in addition to macro events, and Federal Reserve decisions.
In future blogs we will continue to discuss important planetary transits and aspects, and how it may relate to market movement.
